Hi guys,

I found another old brochure. This one is a S/L 1939 50th anniversary.
It has some great drawings of many of there awards. I thought that
these pages might be of interest to the pre ww2 bunch.

The book shows many other imperial and ww2 awards plus different atachments.
It also shows button hole minis and stick pin minis and some of the crossed
swords and wreaths to attach to ribbons.
If anyone would like to see a specific award , please let me know.

Yup, I got an ORIGINAL in 1969 for about 3 bucks. These have been reprinted, and those are selling for about 50 bucks, last time I heard. Don't know which one you've got, since I have only seen the reprints listed and never handled one.

I've used several snips from mine as illustrations in The Ribbon Bar Article.

One thing about S&L-- their engraved illustrations are EXACT duplications of the pieces they made, made from photographs. Their Turkish War Medal, Silesian Eagle, 1918 Uboat Badge etc etc etc all match PRECISELY with their actual never marked products.

I wish we had OTHER makers' catalogs to work from as well, since there were many little "quirks" like the interiors of WW1 flying badge crowns and so on that COULD identify an unmarked badge... if only we had catalogs as good as S&Ls!

Paul Chepurko sent me copies of two mid-1930s catalogs he had acquired, and used some of that in the Article as well. Alas, one was ANONYMOUS (no maker ID on the cover! ) and the other was obviously a retailer of products from many different makers.

I'm surprised that more catalogs don';t surface, because anybody looking for quick cash ought to realize that "that old junk" must be worth something, with all the award illustrations. We can but live in hope!!!

This is an original and I only wish it cost 3 bucks. The price was WAY north
of that.

Can you see the flaw on the 3 o'clock arm of the RK?

Unfortunately the brochure does not show any 1939 EKs, RKs, or spange.
My guess is that the thing was printed in early 1939 and these awards
were not instituted untill some time later that year. I believe it was
Sept. 1, 1939.
