    Numbers on trench knife

I picked up this trench type knife. I'm wondering about its origin. Does anyone recognize this type of knife or the numbers stamped on the back?

The handle, more specificly the pommel and the crossguard, (if indeed that's what they are) reminds me of something but I cannot pin it down.

Many of these trench knives were fashioned from service bayonets. I thought initially this had been, but could find no match with any ww1 type bayonets after a quick check this morning.

I will keep looking. I am now sure I have seen something like this before.

It looks like a bayonet that has been shortened, re-shaped somewhat, re-gripped and had the locking mechanism removed.

It looks a bit like the 1890s era Norwegian Krag-Jorgenson bayonet. I think that if you dig around on bayonets you will find the correct one.
