I also know there were about 3 or 4 Kaiser wilhelms wasnt there thru germanys history, One had a W with roman numeral ll below one with Wand R over as you have shown for rex, but the W cartouche is still looks like the same style. I saw a cigarette case on one site that was presented by the kaiser to someone with diamonds in the w, and the w is alone, and the same exact style as this W, so maybe thats whats throwing me off, and i didnt mean to imply the cartouches on the shoulder boards had a crown as none i have seen have anything but the letters, Like the W style shown here alone. Anyone have any other ideas as to who this set could have been made for if not the kaiser friedrich wilhelm in ww1? The points are good you have all made..im not an imperial collector as per se, just thought these were cool, and bought them when they crossed my path. I have some forks, knives, spoons (large, and some small spoons also. An incomplete set, but in red, and blue trimmed felt rolls, and no box. I forgot about his withered arm,thats another good observation . They say he was super strong with the one good arm he had. He could crush your hand pretty good with the good one he had ive read somewhere, if he shook your hand. I wonder when steenearts went out, or sold out to the other company? that may help with the history for wich period they may have been made. thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I try it once again.
There is no Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm in WWI, only Wilhelm II.
There is Kaiser Friedrich III. in 1888, and from 1871 to 1888 it is Kaiser Wilhelm.
Why are you fixed thus and only on the "W"?
You must see the complete combination, the "W" combined with the 9-pearl coronet. This is inseparable here.
See for example a lower noble combination with a 5-pearl coronet:

A 5-pearl coronet is for Edler/Ritter in Germany.
A 7-pearl coronet is for Freiherr/Baron in Germany.
A 9-pearl coronet is for a Graf in Germany.
Etc.
Therefore the previous owner must be a "Graf von W..." or a "Graf W...".
The silver mark with name, creszent and crown is prescribed since 1888.
