Here's a piece I picked up at the Max last year. The inscription reads "Deutsche Krieger Fechtanstalt". In the center, "FW & V St." (Frederich Wilhelm u. Viktoria St?). It's white bronze wit5h a 1 in. flat loop, maybe to fit over the strap of a fencing tunic? Any thoughts on it?

Tom,
The "St." part COULD be the abbreviation for "Standesamt", which I have seen before. It certainly does make sense to me, anyhow. Hope that helps!

Bound to be. While "fechten" literally translates as "fencing", it was used in mediaeval German also in the sense of "begging" or "soliciting". There was a long article on the Krieger-Fechtanstalt in either OMM or INFO in the 80ies, and although I can't reach mine right now, I remember there were "stars" illustrated.

Thanks, guys, that helps. I'm still curious about the flat loop on the back, though. Unfortunately I can't get a scan of it without removing the ribbon.
