    Ek 1 Screw-back (help)

I just received this 1914 EK-1 and I would like some opinions please.

It is 3 piece with magnetic core and silver frame. The disc is magnetic
possibly anodized? The disc is maker marked but is very faint. It is marked
with a 5 or 6 digit number and DRGM. To me the cross feels to be lighter
weight than my other EK 1's.

    Thanks for your help,
    Greg

I think it's okay. Had one like it with a piece of period feldgrau wool behind it.

I think it may be a 'lightweight' example. The Germans have a word for this type-which escapes me at the moment- to describe these so-called "parade pieces". They were thinner and had a very finely detailed thin core. I have a few but thay are all pinback. Greg, how about your screwback version-- is it thinner than a normal EK1?

In any case, it's a nice cross. Thanks for sharing!

I saw another one of these yesterday at the show in St. Paul.
It was engraved with the recipients name and unit. Price was
$225. A little too much IMO.

Reverse undone. The screwplate is not magnetic.

Marks, "800" and (it looks like) "G."

An old thread back from the past....

Greg, is your "thin" unmarked EK magnetic? I just obtained a beautiful "thinner" EK from Detlev, it appears to be a "lightweight" version, possibly made from brass (?), ultra-high quality, not magentic. It is real, but no-one seems to talk about these? Tony

                        Hi Tony,

Mine has a magnetic core. It has a silver frame and a MAGNETIC screw plate.
I don't know if these can be found with a brass core or not. But I have heard
that copper may have been used.

Maybe George or Doug or Brian would care to give their opinion???

I would love to see it.

                        Hope this helps,
                        Greg

The core on mine is magnetic.

Thank you Greg and George. I will scan this new (brass?) EK1 at work and post it. I bought a new Cannon scanner and found out too late the stupid thing will not scan anything with depth. T
