    Another 1813

I picked this one up a few years ago when I was young(er) and naive At the time I didn't question it, but as I learned more it went into my "chalk it up to experience" box. I just happened to dig it out today & got to wondering. It's an unstepped core, measures 45 mm and weighs 16.01g. The ring is approx. 16 mm. My feeling is that i was sold a pup, but maybe one of y'all can prove me wrong

--I would myself tend to go with the gut reaction on this one too, Tom. Not that this one doesn't have odd qualities that might call for a pause, but it is very large and though the weight is not unheard of, pretty heavy too. I think even most 1914 crosses kinda hover around the 43-44 mm mark, so this would even be a little big for a 1914.
--That is a weird frame, though. Sorta thin on the top horizontal bits and thicker elsewhere. The bottom twig on those oaks is weird also. Looks like an inverted ice-cream cone (don't remember ever seeing this before, not this wide or conical).
--Paint looks odd as well. Does the finish differ from obverse to reverse? Looks like some kinda large-vein bubbling going on there as opposed to the more typical 'acne' bubbling on sand casted 1813's.
--Don't know what it is (not early/mid 19th Cent, tho), but it makes a good case for a possible 'Centennial' dealie.
--How does it compare with your 1914's (I know that you have one or two of those lying around ). Does it feel radically different?
Also, as I don't remember, do you have a bona-fide 1813 in your collection for comparison?

To me, it smells of 1890-1918 period. I like the age of the paint and the crown detail. The crown looks like the ones I've seen on KO marked 1870 EK2 reissues, which I assume were made in the early 20th century.

I like this piece for all the same reasons that Doug mentioned in the post above. I too think it's a later Imperial era display or commemorative piece. I would be more comfortable to date it from the 1914-1918 period.
