    1901 Dated German Medallion

I am researching this medallion and thought I would create this post to see if anyone can help me with information.

The medallion was brought home from WWII by a US soldier.

One side reads, "Wilh.Furst z Wied. Protector D. Rhein Schutzenbundes", which possibly translates to, "means protector of D. Rhine Protection Alliance."

"Wilh. Furst z Wied." may mean "Wilheim Furst of Wied."

The other side reads, "Rheinisch Bundesschiessen", which possibly translates to "Rhenish Federal Shooting."

The diameter of the medallion/coin is 1 and 1/2 inches.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

        Hi Chris,

WILH. FÜRST Z. WIED, PROTECTOR D. RHEIN. SCHÜTZENBUNDES

Wilhelm Fürst zu Wied, Protector des Rheinischen Schützenbundes

Wilhelm Prince to Wied, protector of the Rhenish shooting federation

        XIX. RHEINISCH. BUNDESSCHIESSEN NEUWIED 1901

        XIX. Rheinisches Bundesschiessen Neuwied 1901

19th Rhenish federal shooting Neuwied 1901

It is an old German tradition, to have shooting events on different levels.
This is a medal for a "lower" competition.
Neuwied was a part of the Rheinprovinz, Rhine Province

        http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinis...%C3%BCtzenbund

The highest level was the "Deutsches Bundesschiessen" since 1862.

        Sorry, not always English versions.

        Regards
        Uwe

          Thank You!

Thank you all so much for the German translation, the explanation regarding what this award is and a price comparable.

          Best,
