    Alsace Lorraine plates?

    Hello all,
Don't know if this query belongs here or where so if it doesn't I apologize for placing it in this forum. I have two porcelain plates which I believe are related somewhat to military in nature. Both say on the back of them,"Le Poilu en Alsace et Lorraine and the 1st one has a picture of a soldier on the front holding two children in his arms with the wording "Cher poilu, portez nos baisers a nos petites camarades, qui bous attendent a la maison" below the soldier and above him on top of plate is I assume two flags and the wording Alsace et Lorraine and the date 1918 below this. The maker of the plate looks like Saneguenines(?)with a DV superimposed over this. The second plate shows a soldier surrounded by 4 ladies with the wording "Cerne de tous cotes,je me rends" with the same flags and wording of Alsace Lorraine and date of 1918 below. Can anyone translate this wording for me and also can you tell me anything about these plates and indeed what the meaning of them is? Also value if at all possible. Again if this is the wrong forum i apologize. I just didn't know where to put my query and being that they seem to relate to the imperial era I figured i'd place it here.
    Thanks
    Duzig

    Plates

1st one could be translated as:
The Poilu in ALsace and Lorraine. ("Poilu" means "hairy" but was the affectionate nickname for the French infantry soldier during WW1.)

"Dear Poilu, take our kisses to our friends who await us in our home".

2nd. "surrounded on all sides, I surrender"

      Hello again,
Thanks for the information and translation on these plates Terry. Any idea of value or any other information you can furnish about these plates? I picked em up at a garage sale for 3 bucks apiece but know absolutely nothing about them. I would imagine they are not reproductions and the lady I got them (who was a senior citizen)said her mother had gotten them years ago. Ever hear of that maker or anything? In any case thanks for answer to my query.

        plates

No idea about plates. The maker's mark may be Sarreguemines (not sure of the exact spelling but it is the name of a town in France).
Maybe if you put up photos on the forum, other people will recongnise them.
The 1st one is obviously a patriotic thing, the second being typical humour of time I guess.

Again Terry thanks much for your information. With the correct name of the town in France I am at least able to start inquiring online about these plates.
          Thanks again.
