    What is this?

    Hi
This came with a small group of items both Imperial and TR and I assume this is Imperial. Can anyone give me any information on it?

Hello andy, it was upside down. It's a Prussian Landwehr long service clasp. Interesting ribbon. I know some added ribbons to them but they were originally meant to be sewn onto the ribbon directly. You also see them with a pin back added.

Can you show the back, this one seems to be better quality than many I have seen.

No, wrong. This one is the military long service award 3rd class in "old style", issued until the medals and the cross were introduced in 1913. The ribbon with the black stripes is the right one. THe clasp is cast from iron with an silver frame while the Landwehr clasp is woven and has an iron frame.

The military long service clasp 2nd class is made from silver and has a blue ribbon with white stripes, the 1st class is gilt and has a ribbon with yellow stripes. The maker mark on the back is "H. ZEHN". There exist also earlier ones, e.g. made by "HOSSAUER".
