          Thanks Guys!

          Thanks guys!

I want to thank Tom for posting them for me. I'm still in the tin can and string era of computer equiptment. Maybe if I stop buying EKs I can upgrade. Nahhh!

I would have posted earlier but some friends and I were watching the Chi- town Bears getting slaughtered by Green Bay in the "New" Soldier Field. Maybe next year.

Anyway I appreciate your comments. I'll try to fill in what I know about these crosses.

Kind of blurry eyed today need to go back and look at the order they were posted in.

          Enjoy!

          T

            Stats

Some info on the Eks posted above.

*The 1870 EkII non-combatant is a period cross with the rare 1870 NC ribbon. The 1870 ribbon differs from the 1914 version in width and spacing of the color bands. This cross and ribbon came into my collection about 20 years ago. The ribbon was attached to the ring but because it somewhat fragile and has seen much handling over the years I display it off the cross. A great piece with a lot of charactor and a story to tell.

            * The 1870 Prinzen is a high quality piece that is similar in quality and constuction to the 1871 Women's and Maiden's Honor Cross. A little gem. The ribbon came with it but I believe that it may have been replaced at some point.

            * This first 1870 EKII with the Oaks is another period EK. The Oaks were added later during the Jubilee. Compare this obverse with that of the Godet EKI. They are the same. The 7 in the date numerals are also the same and are the give away.

*The cased 1870 EKII with the Oaks is probably a Wagner product. The case and Oaks are obviously from the Jubilee period. The cross may be earlier but it is hard to tell for sure. This ensemble came to my collection a few years ago as you see it.

            * The 1870 EKI Godet. An original period piece with side hooks. Unfortunately someone had cleaned this piece even before the previous owner had it. To bad as it looked to have some realy deep patina as evidenced by what remains by the side hooks. I don't know what to say about it other than it speaks for itself. In my search for this cross I found that period Wagner EKIs are a bit easier to find than the Godet examples. Keep in mind this relative to the rarity of period 1870 EKIs. This is the second Godet example I have seen for sale since I started collecting EKs in the mid 1960's. I found this a number of years ago at the SOS and that it cost me the equivalent of some body parts. I won't say which ones.

I'm glad that they've seen the light of day from their prison of the bank vault and I hope you guys will enjoy looking at them as much as I do.

            Best regards,

            T

--Those are some really prime examples, thanks for breaking them out of the vault.
I'll have to put together some shots of mine, but that will have to wait a few days

                  Bill and Antti,

                  Thanks.

I'm looking forward to seeing the crosses you mentioned, Bill.

It's very satifying to bring these crosses out of the dark and into the light. I'm know that seeing them again brightened my day and I'm glad that they've done so for you too. Sharing with other collectors is many times hard to do physiaclly but forums like this one are a real boon to the sharing and exchange of ideas.

It's a sad commentary on our times that things like these need to be kept secure in a bank vault, safe or similar prison. I will photo the rest of them when time permits and will take detailed shots of the more uncommon or interesting ones.

                  Best regards,

                  T

To the top to keep the interest up.

I was able to get them out again to measure and weigh them. The results will go to Tom and Bill.

                        Thanks Greg!

I'm glad you enjoyed them. Hopefully they'll be included in the archives some of the guys are trying to put together here.

                          Wonderful pieces, T!
Do you have a closeup and both sides of the miniature? That would be great.
                          Thanks in Advance!

                          best wishes,

                            Gerd,

I'm glad that you guys are getting a kick out of these EKs. The pursuit of rare pieces is a lot of fun but sharing the results with other collectors is near the top also.

Which minature? The 1813? You should be able to find better pics of both sides in the 1813 thread that I bumped back up recently for Antti.

                            Thanks again for the compliments!

                              Both?

                              Hi Tony,

i meant the 1870s, but it would be great, if you could post both. I am looking for a REAL one for my collection, so it would be a great help.

                              Thanks in advance

                                Gerd,

Pictures 4 and 5 on the first page of this thread are of a 1870 EKII Prinzen. They are the two right after the obverse of the 1813 prinzen.
