    Godet-Prinzen 1870, oinions please

    This one was in Weitze's Update yesterday.
    I ordered it, but don't know yet if I am going to get it (german holiday today)

    I would like to hear some opinions on this set.
    The ribbon and button are the same as on my full-size 1870, and the cross looks ok to me.

    But, since I have already made some misjudgements in authenticating these pieces for myself (the 1870 fakers are IMO way ahead of the 1939 akers) I would like to hear your opinion.

        A couple of observations. The core detail is kind of bad but it has nice frame beading and good patina. It looks to be unmessed with.

          I just want to be as sure as possible before I purchase (if I was in time).
          You don't see many Prinzen crosses for sale, and as I already found out, the biggest part are copies.

            I don't understand why these are so soft. Look at my set. Not trying to toot my horn, just saying the 1870 are the crispest most gorgeous crosses IMHO and why do we expect Prinzen crosses to look crappy? Unless these are the teeny-tiny prinzen smaller than standard prinzen, well, you know what I think.

                While Weitze's does look very different. I cannot say it's good as I don't know how they've got to look like - but it does not look in any way like the fakes I know. I really like it and hope you got it.



                I'm to lazy to look at Weitze's page now as it's late and I'll be at bed in some minutes - how much was that one?

                      Hi Ben.

                      The button and ribbon set-up are perfect Godet (I have another on file) and the cross itself is certainly not a current fake.

                      For what it's worth to you, Niemann sold this one (below) recently in a case with a genuine 1870 Godet EK1 and it is identical to yours.

                      My gut feeling (and that's all I can offer) is that the one you are looking at is good.

                        I saw this one on the update yeaterday as well, it certainly looks good Ben and I hope you get it.
                        I'm not sure if it's the photo but the one Marshall posted has a wider frame and a flat top '3' in the '1813' date and the Weitze example has what looks like a rounded '3'?

                          Adrian is right though, I also noticed the difference in width of the frame, and the date is different as well...
                          The set-up and button are textbook, I have the full-size ek2 that matches perfectly.

                          Though one to crack, although I really like the overall appearance ....

                          I wrote that I ordered it, but that was incorrect, I had it put on hold, which they did.
                          So I have one day left to make the decision....

                            Is it really a Prinzen or a button-hole-type lapel award? For a Prinzen it looks too soft, but the lapel EKs are MUCH smaller - no?

                              It sure looks like a button-hole device to me. Isn't it a button that is attached to the ribbon?
