The Souville Hoehen badge! A not offical award of the Battle of Verdun in 1916!

A collector offered to me a Souville badge. At the moment I have no photos of the badge, that he offered to me. He told me it is one of the rarest not official German Imperial ww1 awards and it is easier to find a Knight cross, than to find such a badge.

I did not find it on the well known dealer sites. And I got only a few informations about the badge on this site:

    http://freenet-homepage.de/bero3459/souville-orden.html

I think in the German army it was not allowed to wear not offical badges on the uniform (other troops for example soldiers from Austria wore a lot of such not official badges, cap badges etc.). There were only a few exceptions like the Souville button of the R.I.R.88 and the Souville badge of the R.I.R.81 from Hessen. The badge got only stormtroopers and soldiers, that fought at the Souville Hoehen in the battle of Verdun in the August of 1916. It was allowed to wear the badge on the left side of the uniform.

I want to know more about the award! How many badges were awarded etc. Who can tell me more?

Thanks Gerdan! I must try to get this collector newspaper, that has been described on this web site!

Here is my Souville badge, that I got today

You can say, it is a little bit like a CCC (CLOSE COMBAT CLASP) of the ww1 !

I do not know in which European country you are living but in a lot of German public libraries you can find the "Zeitschrift für Heerskunde".
Your badge is a very nice and rare piece.

I like the Souville button too! If somebody has one for sale...?

The RIR88 fought on the left side of the RIR81 and got this other not official award of the battle of Verdun!

I would like to see more photos of the battle of Verdun?

Somebody, who can post some pictures (if possible private battle photos)?
