Why is the word bronze in English and not German? I've seen Silver marked on 1st class versions, but it is written "Silber", which I assume is the german spelling. This may have been added later.

I thought the same thing so I got out my German/English dictionary and
was surprise to find out that "Bronze" is the correct spelling.

I am still not sure about this cross. One piece and weak details plus
an UGLY crown. But I have seen worse looking crosses that turned
out original. I think we need to forget the "Bronze" marking and see
if any of the real details match any known original or fake crosses.

Perhaps a spangenstuck, made for use on medal bars.

Guess I should have checked the spelling myself. I don't worry about quality because it varied greatly in these. I have some that look poor and others, like my JWS that are beautiful in detail. Different things do turn up from time to time. I found that 935 marked piece this year.

                  Hi guys,

The 'Bronze' marking is known to have been used occasionally on interwar era European medals, decorations and medallions. Mostly on items that were commecially obtained vesus official award.

The EKII posted looks like such a piece. Really not that awful a strike as far as details go. It had been silvered and painted to represent an original EK, albeit a simplified commercial copy using bronze instead of silver. I can't tell if it is a one piece strike or two halves soldered together. One, two and three piece construction is known to exist.

                  Hope this helps some.

                  Tony
