Hi Wolfpack, I have looked at the auction photos. There are no obvious problems with the helmet, BUT I would want much clearer photos of the camo paint before bidding on this item.
99% of camo M16s on the market today seem to be fake. So I would exercise caution in buying one.
I do own one of these myself (not for sale) which I have posted pics of before on this forum.
Hope this helps you?
Cheers, Ade.

Be careful

wolfpack,

The "problem" with painted camo Stahlhelms, is that they were painted by the individual in their units. You have to have a certain amount of faith when you get one, and follow the normal guidelines for anything painted. Does it smell like paint? Can the paint be removed (in a tiny area in an unnoticeable area) with paint thinner? 90 year old paint will do neither. Unfortunately, you cannot tell until you have the helmet in hand. Plus, helmets were routinely re-furbished and re-painted locally after collection, and not always factory refinished like in WWII, so you usually see paint under paint on an original which makes it even more difficult to tell a faked one. But for a helmet with a very rare painted insignia like the one you asked about, you have to be extremely suspicious and careful. I would not buy one myself unless it had providence. For your interest, all my painted camos on the link below, came from the families of deceased Canadian great War soldiers. Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com/feldgra...ts/m16camo.htm
