He thinks he someone is going to pay more than $9.99 for this ugly piece of sh*t. What could his reserve be?

Well, why dont you ask him - he is one of our moderators.

These ugly "Latvian" fakes are posted here from time to time, mostly in 1870 incarnation, the quality varies but you can usually spot them by that weird shape of the crown.

In any case, where is George when you need him , this needs to go to Imperial.

Utenos, dont tell me your name is Vadim too??

I need a good repro for a repro tunic I have. I think I will bid on it for that and simply because he is so honest.

Where can I find a good quality repro then? I dont want a costume jewelery type either. I just want one I would mind sticking on my tunic.

Paul, you can try www.soldat.com , their reenactor supplies are cheap and of decent quality. Here is a link to their WW1 badges http://www.soldat.com/ord%20WWI.htm

Ughh....Greg, you missed the point. The idea is NOT to buy it, so others can be warned about these fakes. I've had it on auction about 9 times over the past 4 months and have gotten many nice comments on it from folks who might have otherwise been duped. I also had a Latvian gentleman actually run it up to the reserve and refuse to pay for it, just to take it off eBay. I also had our "friend" from Cedar Hill/DeSoto/Dallas Co. TX (who sells the 1870 EK1 and EK2 versions) bid on it to try to cover his butt.

By the way, this particular piece and the ones " the82nd" is selling are probably NOT from Latvia. The Latvian pieces don't look right, but they are much better made than these. The crowns on the Latvian pieces are nicely detailed, but not shaped quite right. The shape of the crosses are a little too chunky and the pins are way too curvy and machine-made looking. They do go to a lot of trouble to "age" them and the aging looks pretty goo. SOme of the Latvian crosses even have the paint on the core "grayed" to look old. They go to a lot of trouble to rip off the collectors. Too bad they don't apply their skill to something which actually makes a contribution to something. Check out seller "wwii_attic" on eBay. He tries to sell these Latvian fakes. Do a search on his past autions--I belive he had one pictured about a week or so ago. It's a typical Latvian fake.

                          Hi Greg,
Well.......er....uhhh.......I got it off of eBay about 3 years ago. The auction had lousy photos and I thought I was getting an "economy" variation at a bargain. It was sold by a seller who did not normally deal in miliatria, so he probably got snookered, too. I paid less than what a real one would cost, but more than this was worth. For what I paid for it, I decided to hang on to it as an example of a fake. But, yes, I'll be the first to admit that I got fooled a few years ago.
