New look web page

Besides adding a number of new images over the past few weeks, I have also redesigned a few pages to incorporate more text about the various states and their decorations.

So far, I have only completed a few of the "new look" pages: Take a look around. I have also added a section where I might put up various articles on special interest topic - the first one up is on the Clasps to the Kriegsdenkmünze 1870/71. This one is only partially done, though. I would like to incorporate the chart of which corps qualified for which clasps, as well as add images of many of the clasps, but that might take some time.

Also, on the main militaria page, I have added links to a few more medals and other militaria, such as this Australian ribbon bar:

and I have added new pages for Finland and the United States. I also added a few links to various collector sites. So take a look around.

Thanks,
Dave

Just Keeps Getting Better!

Congratulations Dave – really looks great. You are filling a huge gap as a much needed primer on this topic in general. Keep it coming! How can we help???

Keep up the good work

Well done Dave, you are filling in the gaps to provide a good online reference primer.

Coincidentally, I PMed you earlier today about information for Schwarzburg and an image for the Anhalt page.

Look forward to the next new pages,

/David

Excellent work Dan. I particularity enjoyed the brief historical background which is something I did not want to add to my site (too much work!). Keep up the good work. Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com/

Thanks for the feedback. I hope to have more updates soon.

The following are the most glaring gaps for images:
• Prussia: Order of the Crown, 3rd Class with Swords; Hohenzollern House Order Member's Cross (Kreuz der Inhaber)
• Saxony: reverses of the Merit Order; Silver Merit Cross with Swords (the one affiliated with the Merit Order)
• Württemberg: reverse, and maybe better scans, of the Friedrich Order Commander with Swords and Knight 1st Class with Swords
• Baden: clasps to the Felddienst-Auszeichnung
• Hessen: Order of Philip the Brave with swords; Kriegsehrenzeichen
• Mecklenburg-Strelitz: Order of the Wendish Crown (less of a priority since this is rare as a military award)
• Oldenburg: Knight's Cross (1st and/or 2nd Class) and Honor Cross of the House and Merit Order of Peter Frederick Louis
• Anhalt: Order of Albert the Bear with Swords
• Saxe-Altenburg: Duke Ernst Medal (Herzog Ernst Medaille)
• Hohenzollern: any grades of the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern and its associated crosses and medals
• Schaumburg-Lippe: House Order of the Honor Cross; illustration of the swords on the ribbon for the Military Merit Medal
• Reuss: Princely Reuss Honor Cross 4th Class with Swords; Golden Merit Medal with Crown and Swords
• Schwarzburg: any other images of the Princely Schwarzburg Honor Cross
• Waldeck: any classes of the Merit Cross with swords

Sometime in the next few days, I should add more variants of the Saxon Merit Order, the Saxon Honor Cross with Crown and Swords, and the Bavarian MMO 3rd Class with Crown and Swords and 4th Class with Crown and Swords.

Regarding the text, I expect I will be working from the bottom up, i.e. smaller states first, since there is less detail. The four kingdoms and Baden might take some redesign. They are already image-heavy. Adding lots of text will only make them slower, especially for slower internet connections. I will probably split Baden and the kingdoms into two pages each. Prussia really deserves even more than that, given its central role.

Dave, I'll get you the PLM backside. Have to get to the bank and make an Imperial withdrawal from the vault.

Waldeck is done!

Does (a) anyone know if GFM v. Rundstedt was with the Waldeck 3rd Battalion of IR83, or another battalion and (b) have that picture of him as a Leutnant with the Waldeck Merit Cross and the Centenarmedaille? I know he was a battalion adjutant in IR83 in 1896-98 or so, and his having the Waldeck decoration would seem to point to III.Btl., but can anyone confirm?

Thanks,
Dave

Can anyone help with the Rundstedt issue I noted earlier?

Reuss is done.

Also, for those not allergic to zinc, I added some images and made some updates to the German World War Two Military Decorations and Awards page. I also made a few revisions and additions to Romania.

If I try to do Hohenzollern next, that will do it for the principalities. Then I will probably revise and update the three Saxon duchies, which will leave the four unfinished grand duchies and the four kingdoms.

Dave

Well, I tried to do Hohenzollern next, but I haven't finished. And I skipped the Saxon duchies for now.

The two Mecklenburgs, however, are done:

Mecklenburg-Schwerin

Mecklenburg-Strelitz

And Hesse should be next. Then probably Hohenzollern and the Saxon duchies.

Regards,
Dave

PS: I also added an Ethiopia page.

Dave, looks to me like this one comes with two differently colored ribbons?

Military Merit Cross, 2nd Class

What do you think?
