Another pin back WW1 Honor Cross

George Stimson had posted one of these a while ago. I just recently found this one and wanted to share it. I find it interesting that it has a different pin system than the one previously posted by George - maybe two different makers. Also, the price is still visible.

    Thanks,
    CRBeery

      A nice piece.
Does anyone know if these were ever issued as pinbacks or are they all privately done alterations?

I think that they're privately done, but they're not really alterations because they are smaller than the issued crosses. They were made with the pins. Here's mine next to a standard piece.

            Interesting!

I´ve seen this befor, just "widow crosses" no front fighter or war participiants! Maybe a odd womens style to wear it as a brooch instead on a bow.

            Best regards

            Daniel

Interesting pinbacks! I was wondering if the suspension ring was ground off or never there? Thanks, Mike

There's absolutely no sign of a ring ever being ground off of mine. I'm sure that it was manufactured as a pinback.

                    Raised

George's cross looks like it is raised and like EK1s.

                      Gewolbt?

                      Rolf,

By "raised" do you mean "vaulted"? Mine is, slightly.

CR's cross seems to have an impression of the wreath on the back. These obviously are not regular crosses with rings ground off.

                          Vadim,
Not only are these crosses smaller in size, they are about 1/2 as thick as the normal ones. As Rolf noted, they are vaulted. Mine also shows no sign of a ring.
Does anyone know about the price on mine? It says "-80". Was this expensive during the mid to late 1930's? How would this have compared to a normal version?

                          Thanks,
                          Chet

That sounds about right. The S&L catalog of 1939 listed 13 varieties of the cross, ranging from RM 1.20 for a full-sized, "oxidized" type with swords, to RM .22 for a stickpin size. (No, they didn't offer the 2/3 "Mamma's brooch" size.)
