                      Relax.

Both EKs look to be fine.

Why jump to such extremes? You seem to allow no middle ground for manufacturing variances.

Earlier vintage EKs were never completely identical to the Nth degree. One was finished with a slightly wider flange than the other one. Perhaps a different craftsman 's work as these were hand assembled and hand finished crosses. Similarly the cast iron cores will show variances in the surface finish at times.

Minor variances such as you show shouldn't cause one to immediately jump from an item being original to that of a copy. Especially when the prepondrance of the 'keys' or 'tells' of an original are there.

Some folks get overly concerned with alleged super fakes or copies that their enjoyment of the hobby suffers from self induced angst.

                      All the best,

                      Tony

Totally agree with everything my friend Tony says above.

                        As usual.

Napoleonic and Franco Prussian era EK's are not made with Third Reich precision... the very earliest EK iron cores were poured using a sand mold!

Variance - to a degree - is to be expected and I see nothing here that would be considered anything other than acceptable under the conditions.

                            Kay,

I must commend you for your perseverance in the persuit of knowledge!

It is always better to ask questions, to discuss and to put forth reasoned ideas of your own.

Sometimes the answers or discussions that result may be different than what you might expect. BUT...the most important thing is that you have your mind and intellect engaged in your hobby. You will learn the most by observing, thinking and drawing thoughtful conclusions for yourself and not solely relying on others for all the answers.

                            Well done!

                            All the best,

                            Tony

Like so many of these early crosses rust begins from beneath and plays with the look of the surface. Both seem fine.
