        Hi.
Detlev's book offers none with the coke bottle pin.
I have seen them that way before but attach to the pin differently.
This is about the most widely faked badge and is hard to tell even in hand.
I always wanted one but for these reasons have stayed away.
        IMHO John

          Hi Dave,

It appears to be fire-gilt and the hardware to me points towards 30s or TR period for construction.

One thing that strikes me as a little unusual - the hardware appears to have been added after fire-gilding (otherwise the outer hinge segments would be gilded) however the "cut" on the wreath (in line with lower hinge segment) appears to be gilded over. This one has almost certainly never been worn.

As for maker, I can't help, other than to say it is not the Walter Schott (ie early Juncker) design. The design is also not shown in the Niemann book. The double "mast" adjacent to the forward deck gun is a characteristic design feature not seen on his other examples.

          Regards
          Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

            Thanks guys: much appreciated.

I'll stay away from this one I think: one question mark is one too many when you're talking 450 euro

            cheers

            Dave
