Sachsen Medal-Bar - Something may be wrong

    Hi guys,

I'm just back from another visit to Verdun; wait for great pictures!

After my return this one was in the mail. The Albrechtsorden may be replaced by a Sachsen-Altenburg Bravery-Medal with a strange ring attachment. If it was an Albrechtsorden it was mounted very high on the bar; too high to match the other medals.

Replaced or maybe the maker of the bar didn't had the ribbon on stock, but it should be quite common because the saxon Long Service Ribbon was the same. Any opinions?

I think you are right-the Saxon Albrecht medal was replaced.
Nice bar-now can you find a replacement medal?

I have a single Albrechtsorden RK2 w X which should fit. Maybe it was a Feldwebelleutnant or Fähnrich who got the FA-Medal and later the Albrecht. But I am still not sure because of the very high attached hook for the medal.

        Goodday Jens,

It seems that you are quite often visiting the battle site of Verdun.. you're almost at home there! I am quite curious to see your pictures.

Regarding the bar; did you buy it on Ebay? Because I got the feeling I have already seen it. It appears to be a "Frackspange"... mmhhh... not bad, but I don't like either how the Tapferkeitsmedaille (Sachsen-Altenburg) was mounted (see the two rings). You can be right in stating that very likely a Albrechtsorden (probably 2nd class) has been replaced with the latter medal. IMHO if I'm not completely convinced of the way how the medals are mounted, I wouldn't purchase such bar. Many bars were also "homemade" by soldiers or NCOs who didn't have the money to pay a "outfitter" that put together these bars. But in this case I would be quite careful. It's up to you to decide whether to upgrade the bar with a saxon Albrechtsorden or to let like this. IMO I wouldn't upgrade, because you will have to invest too much in doing it. For history sake on the other hand...

        Ciao,

        Claudio

Yeah, I should buy a house at Verdun.

I have a single Albrecht, so replacing would be no problem. The bar is old and original, nothing is "new" on it and it was the Frackspange from Ostharzantik at ebay. At the pic you couldn't see the ribbon completely. Maybe the maker was really our of stock of the right ribbon and so he used the Albrechtsorden ribbon. I'll try if an Albrecht fits on it.

            Albrecht's....

Hi Jens, I think an AORK2 will be fine on the bar because it's mounted as a Frack Bar. It will hang differently, since the bar is supposed to angle up, to the right. It should be fine...

At the top here would be the corresponding ribbon bar:

                    Allright!

Excellent, now, just tip that bar up on the right side and watch how they fall over each other! Excellent bar Jens!

                        Lovely

                        Jens,

You have a very nice bar there. I also followed the auction closely and almost bid on it at the last moment. Glad to see it has found a good home.

If you are considering selling the Sachsen-Altenburg medal with a spare piece of ribbon, please let me know.

                        /David
