    EK 1 1870 Wagner & Söhne

What does the Iron Cross experts think about this one?

I like this one. The date and crown look just as they should. I like
the finish of the core (no paint) and it has a nice dark patina.

I don't know about the Wagner makers mark. I do not have one
to compare against and that is one of the most copied marks. But
considering the looks of the front of the cross, I would guess that
    it's good as well.

    Nice cross.

        Thanks for your comments.

I bought this cross about 15 years ago. I was always pretty sure it is good. It looks identical to the one from the Aurich collection.

Top of the tree Frank - the holy grail of 1870 EK1's.

Correct Wagner mark and obverse features and yes - identical to the Aurich cross.

This is as good as it gets and I would give my right arm for it - but then you already know that...

Excellent EK, it would certainly make the centre-piece of any collection. Congratulations. It's refreshing to see a genuine example of these once in awhile.

These EK 1 of 1870 were awarded 70 years before the Ritterkreuz of 1939, are a lot rarer than than a Ritterkreuz, but amazingly not as valuable.
I guess not as much demand as for a 3rd Reich award.

How many of these EK 1 were awarded in 1870 - around 1200? Even with all the later private purchase EK 1s 1870 still a lot less than the amount of Ritterkeuze that are around.

EK II - 1870/71 repetition clasp

                            Hi Trevor,

                            Hi Guys,

would you know or have you seen a repetition clasp 1870-1914 ??

I have one for an EK II but I am not aware of one for an EK I !!

                            Thank you
