Saxon Medal Bar, Maj. Kurt Oertmann

    Dear Imperialoids,

First of all I would like to thank you Rick (Versailles aka Stogieman) for giving me the opportunity to buy this marvellous and researched medal bar.

Having said that and not wanting you to be waiting for the scans I am posting herewith some of my images taken with my digital camera.

Here are the details of Maj. Kurt Oertmann:

Born: 9 January, 1883 in Wurzen, Saxony

Served his entire career with Saxon Infantry regiment 102, joined ca. 1903

    Patent, Leutnant: 18 August, 1903

Ca. 1910: Received Bavarian Military Merit Order, Fourth Class, Peacetime ribbon, while on detached service as Cadet Instructor with the Royal Saxon Corps of Cadets

    Patent, Oberleutnant: 9 August, 1912

Serving as Adjutant I Korps, Infantry Regiment 102 in 1914

Albert Order, Knight’s Cross, Second Class w. Swords: 31 October, 1914

    Patent, Hauptmann: 28 November, 1914

Bavarian Military Merit Order, Fourth Class w. Swords: 5 February, 1916

Albert Order, Knight’s Cross, First Class w. Swords: 20 May, 1916

Albert Order, Crown to The Knight’s Cross, First Class w. Swords: 24 August, 1917

Military Order of Saint Henry, Knight’s Cross: 7 May, 1918
Serving as Hauptmann/Commanding II Korps, Infantry Regiment 102

St. Henry Citation: Oertmann has distinguished himself again at the Battle of Armentieres, where the IR 102 was attached to the 32nd Infantry Division (9.4.1918). Without caring for his own safety, he lead his battalion several times in assaults on the enemy lines. His leadership and courage had great influence on the spirit of his men.

Demobilized from the Imperial Army ca. 1920

Listed in 1939 as Commander, Wehrmeldeamt Bitterfeld, Saxony, with the rank of Major z.D., seniority date of 1 June, 1932

Just remember every time you look at it that it once spent all too brief time at my house too!

I was amazed to see a "980" hallmark on the reverse suspension curlicues of the peacetime MMO4! Couldn't scan it because it's sewn down.

Today I really am a happy man and German Imperial medal bar collector!

                Rick (Lundström),

Here is the detail of the markings...

I am sooooo glad that I am focusing my collection on Imperial stuff... when I see these beauties, nothing can't compare it, especially the zinky WWII stuff... I don't know how was I sucked into collecting WWII stuff... But now I saw the light... I am enlighted! Allelujah!!!! From now on I will dedicate all my efforts on Imperial collectibles... god save me and my finances...

I know that Jakob Leser's BMVOs are your favorites... and also mines... you opened my eyes! Well the detail on the medallion and the translucent Bavarian light blue enamel is just mindblowing! I totally agree with you!!!

                            An era has passed

With the sale of this bar, my St. Henry collection is gone. This was the last piece from that collection and a finer home it could not have found!
