I'm posting this for Wintershaft. It came in a group with award documents and service papers. The NCO is wearing an M1910 Feldgrau uniform with this armband on his upper arm:
Notice the tiny white outlined cross at the top center of the armband.
This is unlike anything I've ever encountered.
From the dark color, without this little device, I'd have thought it might have been a mourning band worn uncorrectly above the elbow. But I have never seen one of those with a cross device.
Could this be some sort of staff (runner?....) armband?
