Regarding the DOV membership medal, I have one also, No 66731 and I can see why people may think it is silver based on looks even though it does not have a good silver ring when tapped. Therefore I did a specific gravity test on mine and found it to be a copper-nickel-zinc alloy. Fred

I did a chemical test and both are silver ,,
also the catalogue states they are delivered in silver ...
or neu silber,,, silver plated

I love that catalog! It states the medals are in silver and silver plated "new silver" which is what mine must be. Specific gravity is a test that weighs the item when suspended under water. That number when used in a formula determines the density of the metal which is then compared to the known specific gravities of known metals and alloys. (Subtract the wet weight from the dry weight and then divide the dry weight by the difference which then gives you the Sp. Gr. ) Chemical tests are fine but will only tell you what the surface material is. If the medal is plated the test is misleading unless you test file it which damages the medal.

And a coin. Going by the membership documents in this thread it was issued sometime between 1884 and 1889. The problem is that this style coin with this company name wasn't around until 1902 or so....

holding until that point the paper version off his membership .

let me assure you that paperwork off a high ranking officer wood survive on the front easily...(at 1914/18 at least)

( that changed drastically at 1939 )

it deviates from the regular versions I seen before ..

but interestingly ,,

gives away the name of the mould cutting artist of the design ..

it says Schoppan
