    Opinions on "S" Marked 1914 EK2 Please?

Could I have opinions on originality of this 1914 EK2 please? The ring has the maker stamp of "S." The core is slightly loose. It is of 3 piece construction with magnetic core. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sold on these. Any other thoughts. The crown is awful. But I can't believe there's any profit in copying these either...

What doesn't look good about it? The core details can vary on these. Can the patina on this one be faked?

It's probably genuine, just a weird crown.

I agree the crown is not aesthetically pleasing but the crowns on the most common KO variants are no better!

I have no problems with this one.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

Brian, I do not understand what you are saying here. Do you think they are fake or not ???

This is the type of crown which you get on an "S" WW1 EK 2. This is not a comman maker but when you hold this one in hand the crown is reasonably detailed of the curved high variety and not a low variety like on a "KO" marked EK.

I notice that the crown on WW1 EK's vary according to the maker just like they do on WW1 German belt buckles. (could depend on what state or part of the German Empire they were made in)

Based on your experience however your point is worth following up on.

I would like to know the weight of an "S" EK2's, The one pictured here is not a heavy cross and the edges feel sharp. The whole thing appears un-issued but that can happen depending on who it was given to and why. May have been a posthumous award.

Would be interested if other member with an "S" type could post theirs or details there of.

                    Await replies, Chris

The details and quality of the cores on these EK2s varies greatly. I believe it was a fairly unregulated industry with many small makers producing the items under wartime conditions. Often the thickness of the paint has an influence. I'm going to post a few examples here to show how much genuine 1914 EK2s can vary. Here is my S.

Here's a good one, probably the best I have, the elusive JWS. As you can see, detail here is quite nice and crisp.

This G marked for Godet is good to in terms of detail.

                              Here's a few that don't have great detail. A Z marked item.
