Unknown German Medal - Help Please

Hello,

Does anyone know what this medal is? I’m guessing that this is a Patriotic Medal because of the inscription on the reverse “<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><ST1Germany before Everything” (please correct me if my translation is not correct). I am also assuming that it was an unofficial medal produced during WWI. If anyone knows what it is do you by chance know what the suspension ribbon looked like?

Thanks,
John

It must be a patriotic medal because with "Deutschland, Deutschland über

alles" is starting the text of the German national anthem. In addition there is

the German imperial coat of arms til 1918. So it must be pre- 1918. I think you

are right it must be of private origin.

Hi Gerdan,

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking maybe a veterans group put these out prior to or during WWI.

Best,
John

odd one. normally the eagle wings on all mainly point their feathers downwards except the lubeck veterans but they had two eagle heads on their badges.
the potsdam vets is the nearest i find but that held two swords held by the feet.
for me i would lean towards the prussian eagle type if that makes sense
