    Help with Imperial Crosses?

I picked these up on an estate sale and would like some help with identification. I'm pretty sure the one is an Iron Cross, second class but I'm not sure what the other is. I'm pretty new to this... Can someone tell me what I have? Thanks--LK

    Hi LK,

The bigger cross on the left if the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class (on black-white ribbon for combattants - there will probably be a stamped marking on the large ring) and the smaller cross on the right is the Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2nd Class on NON-combattants ribbon.

Thanks...so I would take it that the hanger (and this combination of medals) would have been constructed from those given to two different individuals...can you think of any scenario where these two would have been awarded to the same person? (or did I just purchase an accumulation?)

      Thanks again,

      Larry

Awarded to the same guy. Probably a medical person of some sort serving in the war zone.

            For what it is worth.

For some reason, Brunswick KVK’s on the non combatant ribbon are quite frequently seen on bars with combat EK’s. I do not know why this happens; it must have something to do with a strictly adhered to provision in the regulations.

I think Brunswick had a more strict interpretation of noncombatant whereas the Prussian EK2 on noncombatant ribbon appears to have been mostly restricted to at home awards.
