    Hello ....

    Dear All,

Hello, I'm new to this area of the website, but since my intrest in EK's is drifting more to the imperial era from the TR era I though I'd better introduce myself to all here, as I'm sure I'll be posting here a fair bit in the near future.

I have just purchased my first imperial EK's a cased KO 1st Class and a KO 2nd Class. I'd like to ask if somesone can provide me any information about the maker Königliches Münzamt Abteilung Orden ?

Secondly ... I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I'm really would also like an EK2 1870, but don't know enough about them... am currently studying the EK2 1870 section of the Iron Time By Stephen Previtera. Can anyone recommend a reputable dealer who has a good one, and what price start at for at various states of condition.

Thanks to all and Hello again,

    Gareth

Hi Gareth and welcome to Imperial. As we evolve to a higher species it is only natural to land here. You can use the EK database here, pinned at the top of the forum page for starters. There are also numerous threads on the 1870 EKs. Post whatever you intend to buy here for approval.
    Happy hunting.

I can't tell you anything about the KO factory, but the KO cross itself is a good one. I like the core details as they are very clear, unlike some cores I've seen from several other makers. One thing that is unique to the KO EK2 is the way the small ring is attached to the frame. It is soldered to a small tab that extends out slightly from the frame. Most others are soldered directly to the frame and sit lower than on the KO. Ammersee

Imperial EK's are so nice. One thing about the KO maker is it apparently isn't a maker like some of the others, but some kind of official organization or something. I've never been able to get it straight in my head, but someone might be able to clear it up. They are easily the most common maker of 1914 EK1's and EK2's. One of my first EK1's was a KO. Very nice pieces that were most likely awarded directly to the soldier.

Can any body point me in the right direction for an 1870 EK2, I have trawled through many dealers sites, but have yet to find one. Does anyone know anyone who my have one for sale listed on their site or here on the forum ?

            Regards,

            Gareth

                Thank you,

I tried Weitze, he only has an 1870 with 25yr oak leave and 1914 repetition bar which he wants 1250 EUR, that's a little out of my price league ! I'll check eMedals now, thank you

What is the "going rate" for an average 1870 EK2 ?

                Regards,

                Gareth
