    Tiger1's PLM

Here is a PLM belonging to our own Tiger1. I received these pictures yesterday. I have been hanging around here for a few years now and
never even knew Tony owned a PLM. I don't have anything to compare
against but I have to say I like what I see.

    From the collection of Tiger1.

Not a PLM I have ever seen before - from any era....

Certainly not a Wagner (as the stamp would indicate) nor a Godet (which the eagles are vaguely remniscent of) from the 1914 - 18 period.

                    Anything you can add Tony?

                      Marshall,

Your guess is as good as mine. I really don't know.

I wondered if the W is actually an M. This letter is engraved instead of being stamped as the 835 and the star (stern punze) are.

I'll try get some measurements and a weight for you soon.

I look forward to other comments about this piece.

                      All the best,

                      Tony

Are you sure it is engraved. Looks double stamped to me.

                          Don,

From what I can tell it's engraved. The ends of the cuts look to show where the graver was lifted at the end of the cut to preclude a squared end.

Also, look at the angles where the bottom points of the W would meet. They are at different angles and the points would not be in line. The left angle is wider and the two legs would make the point noticably lower than the one on the right.

I'll look again under magnification and will try to get a better pic.

I think the pointy ends of the "W" are just off the edge of the cross arm which then leaves a gap.

Sorry for the long absence guys.

                              Greg,

It is of some quality. Do the center arms have weepholes? The eagles are more Godet shape and seem to be well made but different that what we normally see.

The gap in the crown band and head concerns me. While non-chased letters are consistent with the Wagner, the lettering is very, very different in dimensions. If this piece had no 'W' stamp, I think it would be open to some possibilities as a private made piece. With it, it raises some serious questions as to originality - Eagle style, crown, pie-wedge vice baroque loop, etc. My two cents, Steve
