Here's a cross that came today. Nice sharp matte finish core, "teat" for the eye, weight 19.90 g. Marked JWS. Jens probably has a roomful, but this is the first I've seen with this mark, obviously Joh. Wagner & Sohn. Note the verdigris on and around the frame. Apparently from copper in the solder, as there's no brass taste.

No copper in solder.
Tom,
There is no copper in solder. The vertigris is the reaction to the copper in the silver alloy of the frame due to improper storage. Probably was stored in an oldtime plastic sleeve. This was/is common on silver coins that have been stored that way before the current nuetral PVC (?) sleeves. Coin collectors removed this grunge by loosening with a toothpick and then carefully washing the remainder off with acetone.
If you're going to do this to the cross be very careful of the painted core. Acetone will strip the paint just about instantly. I suggest using a Q-tip dampened with acetone to avoid contact with the core. After that wash with a nuetral soap such as Ivory and thoroughly dry it.
I would also suggest you quit tasting vertigris as it is highly poisonous. I still have a few pictures that I'd like you to post for me. ;>)
By the way, that's a nice cross you got there!
Take care.An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

Now you got me Tom I got only two crosses with "WS" but no "J". Congratulations! Nice cross with stamped core! The frame may be silver plated.
