    Cased silver wound badge

Hi all, I have a silver wound badge with stick pin miniature in case in my collection. Unfortunately can't post pics (dont know why?!).
It is in a brown faux leather tortoiseshell case that had gilt tooling around the lid. Never seen one like it before, upon prising the interior out I found the date 5/8/17 in pencil on the lining paper. This promptly smeared and faded within seconds of the air getting to it! The badge itself is a variant type with the hinge being very narrow and the catch is a one piece cut out that has been bent and soldered on rather than the usual wire. Other than that it is painted and magnetic with signs of rust on the back. Anybody seen this type before? Is the date a bit off? (I know the wound badge wasn't instituted until March 1918).
    Any help appreciated,
    Regards,
    Stuntman

          Very, very....

... interesting case! I would love to see some close-up photos of that case, inside & out. Any maker's marks in/on it anywhere??

            Hello,

Is that a private purchase case ?

            Kind regards

            Marcus

PS I love it, very very nice.

              Hi,
First of all thanks to Tom for posting the pictures for me!
Unfortunately I am at this time unable to provide better pics of the case as I have not yet got round to investing in a digital camera. I intend to buy one in the next couple of weeks and will add some close ups.
There is no trace of a makers mark anywhere on the case but it was certainly made to fit this badge as it sits absolutely flush. My first thought was that it was some kind of private purchase piece but the date inside struck me as odd. Could it be an early type of award badge perhaps to officers??

              Thanks, Patrick
