    Rare 1870 EK on eBay

Not an EK, but still a official Prussian decoration!
The Verdienstkreuz für Frauen und Jungfrauen is a nice and rare award.
given in 1870/71 for merits of women connected with the war (thats why the EK-shape)

    Best regards

    And......

It's hit reserve at $800. Still a fair price, even without the case. yep, a real one and a rare one. Nice change of pace!

      Nice example!

Other than the slight staining on the ribbon this one looks like a beauty. Tough to find one with perfect enamel. It'll be interesting to see what it finally sells for. If I had the extra money I wouldn't mind owning a second one so I could display both sides simultaniously.

There were only 2,000 or so of these awarded if I remember correctly. Or was it 3,000? Either way, there aren't many. This is my favorite EK, bar none. They look even better in person--I've got a mint cased one. The silver chased lettering really stands out from the glass/enamel core. Gorgeous!

Okay, so it's not an official Iron Cross, but these don't come up for sale very often. I'm not bidding (or selling it), so I wanted to share this:

            Doug,

What does the case for one of these look like? I have never seen one.
The reverse side with the lettering is my favorite also. the craftsmanship is just exquiste. The epitome of 1870 EK construction. Actually of any era EKs!
