    Horror movies

Anyone here a fan of horror movies? You know how the audience starts to yell "Don't open the door!!!" right before the helpless victim does open it and then is brutally slaughtered? I know you are asking what does this have to do with Imperial Militaria collecting but I assure you there is a tie in. Let's start the "movie" by posting this innocent looking case.

So you are saying "Hey, that is an innocent looking case. What does that have to do with a horror movie? Go on Don, open it." Ominous music in the background....

By now the faint hearted are peeking through their fingers to see if I've been slashed to pieces. As the ominous music slowly fades away....

What a nice, harmless looking FA Cross 1st class from Oldenburg. Pretty neat reverse setup too.

So what we have here is a nifty cross in a nice innocent looking box. You are of course familar with the phrase "Curiosity killed the cat." Same thing in horror movies. Why does the victim always feel compelled to look in the closet, under the bed, behind the door, etc....???? I wonder what is under the cushion backing in the box?

Shall I look? Why not? What could possibly be dangerous about doing this? Ominous music rises.... EEEWWWWW, hair from a dead guy!!!!! You really think something like that would have been mentioned in the sales advert.

Alex, it appears to be old, greying hair from a beard. Unless he was into granny panties I think it was snipped from him after death and placed with his award by his family. Either way, I'm still washing my hands.

my grandmother has box that contains a snippet of hair from her grandfathers beard that was cut from his beard before he was buried, and it looks just like that. i get grossed any time she opens the box, i find it very repulsive

Saving a locket of hair was a very common practice in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Quite often the hair was braided and mounted in what was called mourning jewelery and is quite collectible in certain antique circles. What is seen today as abhorent or repulsive was a very acceptable practice in its time.

I think I'm fortunate in never finding anything like that in ANY cased cross from anywhere! Nice cased FA1X byt the way - nice replacement pin too!

I wonder who got the other half of his moustache??!!

                        Regards

If you want gross, there's a show on down here called "Collectors". The other week, they had a lady on who COLLECTED hair - just hair. She had all sorts of braids, etc, that had been removed in one piece and get this, she had dozens of round glass petri dishes full of - you guessed it - PUBIC hairs. GROSS
