Anyone here a fan of horror movies? You know how the audience starts to yell "Don't open the door!!!" right before the helpless victim does open it and then is brutally slaughtered? I know you are asking what does this have to do with Imperial Militaria collecting but I assure you there is a tie in. Let's start the "movie" by posting this innocent looking case.

So what we have here is a nifty cross in a nice innocent looking box. You are of course familar with the phrase "Curiosity killed the cat." Same thing in horror movies. Why does the victim always feel compelled to look in the closet, under the bed, behind the door, etc....???? I wonder what is under the cushion backing in the box?Attached Filespseudo-expert

Saving a locket of hair was a very common practice in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Quite often the hair was braided and mounted in what was called mourning jewelery and is quite collectible in certain antique circles. What is seen today as abhorent or repulsive was a very acceptable practice in its time.
