A spectacular piece of debris! The remains if a french Lebel 1886/93 rifle on Cote 304. Maybe it was dug out by forest workers or "treasure hunters".

This is the Lebel in better condition. It had a tube-magazine for 8 rounds below the barrel but was difficult to load and its rim cartridge was obsolete.Attached Files

One of the entrances of Fort Douaumont. 87 years ago this hole in the stones was a wonderful sight for german soldiers who were wounded or trying to get a little rest in the hell of the drum-fire. But the french knew every centimetre of "their" fort and the entrances were very heavily shelled! The germans waited for the load of grenades exploding and jumped in or out of these entrances. If they were lucky and the french fired with the same rythm, they survived; if not... Who knows how many died between these walls here:Attached Files

Another "Big One". A german 15 cm grenade with three copper-bands. The fuse looks like a Granatenzünder 04. Maybe a HE.Attached FilesLast edited by JensF.; 08-28-2003, 04:52 AM.

A big french grenade. Maybe a 10,5 or 12 cm with a percussion fuse. Could be high-explosive or... GAS!
There is also an empty 75 mm shrapnell case and to the right big bones, maybe from a horse.Attached Files
