After a long time - one for Rick !

    Hello Rick,

it has been some time that I got an identification photo, but today I got one on an antique market here in munich:

He is a well decorated officer.

I am not sure if there is another pip above the "11" on his shoulder-boards, so he is either an Oberst or an Oberstleutnant:

    Here's the close-up of his big medal-bar:

As always, I am very interested to find out what medals he had and, if possible, a full identification.

    Thanks in advance

    Kind regards
    Robert

    Robert,

That's quite easy, since the medals are so nicely diplayed.

Here is a full identification of the wearer's medals on the picture:

    - Eisernes Kreuz 2. Kl. 1914
    - Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Ritter mit Schwertern
    - Roter Adler Orden, 4. Kl.
    - Bayrischer Militärverdienstorden, 4. Kl. mit Krone und Schwertern
    - Orden der Württembergischen Krone - Ritterkreuz
    - (I'm not sure on this one) Hessen, Tapferkeitsmedaille
    - Bremisches Hanseatenkreuz
    - Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Militärverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse am Band für Kämpfer
    - Oesterreich KuK, Militär-Verdienstkreuz
    - Oesterreich KuK, Orden der Eisernen Krone

    Ciao,

    Claudio

I tried to re-construct the Feldspange this officer might have worn. There are perhaps a couple of correction to be made about the devices. I would have put very likely the swords devices on the Austrian Militärverdienstkreuz. Furthermore, I am not sure about the Golden swords on the Württemburg'scher Kronen Orden.

      Viel Spass!

      ciao,

      Claudio

        Hans Halm

        Robert,

the photograph is of the later General der Infanterie z.V. Hans Halm. Born 24 Feb 1879, died 09 Oct 1957. He commanded Infanterie-Regiment 11 from 01 Nov 1927 until being assigned to the staff of Gruppenkommando 1 on the 1st of November 1929. After retiring in 1931 as a Generalleutnant he entered the Luftwaffe on the 1st of April 1934 receiving the rank of General der Flieger on the 1st of October 1935. Retiring again in 1938 he was recalled to the army as a General der Infanterie z.V. on the 26th of August 1939 as the commander of Wehrkreis VIII until 1st May 1942 and final retirement on the 30th of June 1942.

He is pictured as an Oberst being promoted as such on the 1st of Feb 1926.

        Regards

Rick - how the hell do You know that ? The price is not visible on the photo, it stands on the back and it did really cost me 3 Euro.

To Claudio - thank You for the information about the medals and by the way, an excellent idea to show a color display of the ribbon bar. Very good ! That brings a much better imagination and understanding for me. Cool.

And of course thanks to Glenn for giving the face a name.

You guys are really great, thanks to all.

            Kind regards
            Robert

                Hessen, Tapferkeitsmedaille

                Robert and Claudio,

Claudio is correct, the 6th award is the Hessian Bravery Medal (Tapferkeitsmedaille) as confirmed in the 1928 Rangliste.

                Regards
                Glenn
