    EK1 Brass OK?

One of our non posting members asked me to post this. I like the brass if it's OK...

    another view...

"It is a vaulted EK-1. Pillowed or waffled with screwback attachment.
It is unmarked. The frame is the same size as the ww2 frame.
The frame is gold colored. It looks like it is made of brass or maybe it
was silver plated brass and the silver has been polished off. The
overall detail of the cross is very good but some of the beading is worn
slightly smooth. I think from someone trying to shine the brass.
It is 3-part construction with magnetic core and the core is slightly
    loose in the frame.

I would like to know if this is a good piece or not.

Looks good to me, but I think it's missing a counterplate. The screw head is pretty small

I thought it looked good too. Makes sense a plate is missing. Do you think the light silver plate on brass came off easily. I tend to believe it as my parents had the worst set of 'goblets' they purchased with silver plate on brass. My mother was a clean freak so the brass started showing its nasty little head fairly quickly. I tend to LIKE it on EK's.

It's okay. Many of these types were marked with Rothe's mark. Here's one of mine. Sorry the photos are a little out of focus. I took them without a tripod and the cross was laying on my leg after 3 cups of late night coffee.....

Here's mine. The core is non-magnetic.

Doug and George, nice. I'm sure GregM will be thrilled when he awakes and finds all is well in Imperial EK One Town. Imagine it isprobably Rothe and now he can compare core to yours.

                  Hi,

The marking shown by Doug above is DEFINITELY NOT Rothe - it is the marking for AWS in Berlin. Search old threads and you will see a close-up of an unworn mark. Very nice crosses regardless though!

                    THANKS FOR THE HELP

Thank you all for your help
Especially Brian S. for posting this for me.

The polised brass frame looks really nice when
desplayed with the rest of my EKs

Can anybody help with a back plate for this piece?

                    Thanks again

Thanks Mike. My mistake. Rothe EK's also often have rounded corners on the cross "arms". There seem to be a lot of confusion still between the Rothe and Neffe mark and the Meybauer mark, which are similar at first glance. Getting senile at 52 is tough........
