Ah yes, the Pre Ronald McDonald years. When little kids wore their Kinder Sabel to McDonalds.

We Imperial Anoraks, however naively, are drawn to a more chivalrous time when parole was something one gave one's captors as assurance that he wouldn't take up arms again, not someting a mass murderer got after 6 months' time served. They may have been just as treach- and lecherous in those times (read Frank Harris) but the didn't talk about it. The nobility wasn't just a bunch of whacked out jet-setters, but revered leaders of their countries. Those times may be gone, but among us the myth remains. Long may it wave.

Well, without appearing again like that repetitious EK count thread starter, it seems we all like being civil to one another here. Does it have anything to do with what we collect? I have no idea. I collected Nazeeee for over 20 years and occasionally, some event, some smell, some thing someone will innocently say, will bring back a moment from that time, when everything I bought was under scrutiny, every item was a fake dependant on who you talked to, and every dealer was a crook. Perhaps (?) this lack of paranoia when collecting Imperial actually has something to do with it. (?)

Yes, like Daniel and Vadim mentioned, Imperial is faked, but I do not expect EVERY package in the mail to be crap, and I have had to return very few Imperial items unlike when I collected the Nazeeee crap.

For mott5ranch, I spent three weeks in Germany in April this year helping the Germans at the Wegmann Kraus-Maffei tank turret factory in Kassell in a trial (testing) for our Canadian Army digital radios. I must (er....) confess I may be a bit too intimately familiar mit Die Kneipe!

civilized

This talk of dealers reminds me of an interesting incedent I was part of while visiting Munchen a few years ago.I walked into a side street and thought I was in heaven: 3 shops loaded with militaria! One was a book publisher on the subject;one was an antique shop with a window full of Imperial goodies;one was strictly militaria.Iwent into the militaria first ,only to be haranged because I was Canadian . Canada had deported him (the owner) for spreading hate liturature. In mid-harang the police arrived to shut him down for openingly displaying swastikas and handing out " liturature" AND dealing in stolen goods.I left and went to the antique shop across the narrow street to have my inquireries met with "Keine Orden" and then told to leave by the man in the yarmulka who owned the shop.I went two doors down and bought a book.

We're absolutely more civilised...! Used to collect Third Reich myself until I woke up one morning and realised that, depending on who I was talking to, I had either a) a quility collection of textbook items a small museum would be proud of, or b) an assortment of amatuerish repros mixed with worthless sh*t. Equally, my dealers of choice were either a) real gentlemen, revered and respected throughout the hobby for their honesty and knowledge, or b) complete crooks, outright thieves and self-serving scum, some of whom were responsible for the amatuerish repros listed above. Oh the paranoia...! Having said that, I've learned more about Third Reich militaria from the people on this forum than I ever did from an "expert" or indeed a reference book...sometimes I even feel like going back! As regards Canada, I'd happily move there tomorrow -Shania Twain, Kaiser's Bunker, other people who play Rugby...(was once on the wrong end of a 3-23 scoreline against a Canadian team, but hey I'm not bitter...I thought you all played Ice-Hockey anyway ...actually, the woman in Tom's second photo looks a bit like one of their front row forwards... ) All the best, Paul.

To the tune of: "I'm A Lumberjack..."

We drink our tea with pinkies raised--
We never fart or belch!

It's true sometimes we swap our clothes--
But only if they'll fit!

Wonderful!

And true.

Especially as compared to the rowdies lurking elsewhere.

Maybe we just emulate that which we study? We're aristocratic and they're . . . ?
