It's a very typical hinge up to the late 30's. I can't tell what's happening on the finish of the one you say is not polished. If you can get a photo of the explosions in the air and the vertical lines it would be helpful.

This is an 800 silver piece. Plated over flat reverse.

Come now Ferg. Surely you can give us a better peek at it than that.

Hey Don, I wasn't being covert or anything, I was just thought I would add this one to the mix ! I have had it for a long time the workmanship is superb and the detail is an exact match to 'supposed' accepted pieces I have seen over the years. Does not seem to be an electro-formed piece and certainly not cast. The tiny slivver of bone between the two pierced out nostrils is so fine as to warrant a fine craftsmans work. Having said all that ,I am not entirely convinced about the badge, I don't know why but......... just something. The pin carries an 800 stamp but is quite crude and poorly fashioned. Why create a superb piece of craftmanship and spoil it with a crude pin ?? Doesn't quite make sense to me. I bought the badge from a dealer in London( it was cheap ,£200) who said he picked up 7 of them in Dresden out of a hoard of 50 !!!! (make of that what you will) They are obviously unused and most were patinated to an almost black finish, but all with this strange poorly fashioned pin. I have to say that I really like the badge for what it is, detail and workmanship .It can't have been a cheap badge to make! Any opinions? Ferg1.

                            Ferg.

I think your badge is original.

I like it too ferg but if you are unhappy then just send it to me. I'll even pay the postage. As to finding a hoard, just look at the things being found now.

                                Ferg.

As a point of interest, that could well be the original box it is in.

A couple of years back, a similar badge and purple-lined box appeared in a German auction...............I think it was Thies.

The box was Juncker marked in gold leaf if I recall correctly.
