        I don't want to butt in, but there is a WWII panzer Assault Badge marked A.W.S 1942.

        If this could be the same maker, I have an example, in the issue envelop, with maker's name: Arno Wallpach Metallwarenfabrik Salzburg.

            Thanks, Don, it was a longshot. I was not aware the maker had been identified. I have one and always wondered why any maker would go throgh the trouble to form an elaborate backplate for an Iron Cross.

              Mine is stamped with the silver content of 825 (it looks like 825 at least).

                So I have just read this post and I was wondering if there are any other known makers of the so called 'waffle' / 'pillow' or even upholstered backed EK1s, other than Anton Werner & Söhne, Berlin (AWS).
