Interesting if it is though-really interesting.
If I may, what's the unit of this NCO?

I think it is not "ost" (east) - but "Öst" (Oest) - Österreichische (Austrian)

Erinnerungs Medaille (1914 - 1918) which is this existing.

Obove the O you can see the two points indicating the O - umlaut - Ö.

Really piss-poor handwriting by whoever made the entries.

Then he was with IR 180, company 10, and finally RIR 246, company 9.

Lastly, the first guy was in RIR 122. He was in the Field Machinegun Company. You can see he received training on the MG here:

May be it is helpful to read/understand the German text:

                          ausgeb(ildet) m(it) Gew(ehr) 98, Karab(iner) 98,

Radfahrer - Infanterie Pionier als Schütze am M.G.

He was also trained as a cyclist engineer with machine-gun.

Wow. So, am I correct in that he got the Austrian Franz Josef memorial medal?
                              That would be someting.
Or is there a special regimental commemorative? I suspect the former.
When did he enter the army?
