Thats the Deutsches Feldehrenzeichen. A popular unofficial veterans award of the Weimar Republic era.

        Hello John,

I agree with Christian - from what I can see on the pictures, it is a original one.

            Feldehrenzeichen

            MG

Is that a cokebottle-pin? The ones I´ve seen have had a dubbel-folded round thin pin, and the lettering has been horizontal.
But as always, I´m not an expert

            Regards
            Peter

This was one of the last vanity "buy your own" veterans' "awards," often made much of by ignorant or uncaring dealers because of its design and quality. Despite its design and quality, these were never going for much money until recently.

Given what is being faked today, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if these were too.

Worn? No offense to the vets, but they are a bit much, goofy... But I suppose if you had no EK then what else ya got? A Hindenburg?

Histaria;I.E. Verkuilen Ager, had a great and informative post regarding these about six-eight months(?) ago. They were a private purchase piece as Rick stated, that came with a very elaborate "Urkunde" from the "Association" which was based in Hamburg. The "Association" doesn't seem to have existed except to sell these vanity "campaign medals". They were sold throughout germany and overseas too. They have NO status as a "Hamburg area" WW1 vets medal.
They cost 6 RMs in @1931.
I have seen ONE being worn in snapshots in the last 10 years. They had the status of the modern Commemorative medals that are cranked out by various mints (the funniest I have seen so far is the "Gulf War :Home Front" medal). It was specifically banned by the Nazis in 1934.
I bought mine from Bill Shea 10 years ago for the princely sum of $30. I am certain they are being faked in Poland. I saw a fake one at the last Lowell show in fact.
See Histaria's posts for more info-he doesn't say much, but what he says is pure gold.
                    cheers,
                    JeMc

                      Good thing for Jeff!

Because this award is on Bill's site right now for another Princely Sum... $220.00.
