The photos that follow show a Bavarian MVO Knight 1st in silver-gilt and the MVK 2nd class w/ crown and swords. The MVO has an original ribbon, first type, I believe. Was that badge only in Gold prior to WW I? This one is marked “950” on the reverse, bottom cross arm. Secondly, the MVK is enameled on the reverse as well as the obverse. I can’t find any reference to this. It is very well made with high silver content. The enamel on the reverse is not some later add-on as the lion is attached over the enamel. The cross appears to be on the “peace time” ribbon. Any ideas or info out there?

Bavarian Mvo And Mvk Question

The center devices on the MMOs (crowned L and lion) were gold until about 1916, then silver gilt as this one is. Try "pretty blue enamel" for more MMOs here, or the name "Lautenschlager."
Your MMC2X with Crown is VERY interesting! Its reverse enamelled disk is QUITE non-regulation. A very strange and attractive piece!
I've previously shown a MMO4X that, contrary to regulations, has a frosted silver reverse rather than a correct enamelled one... so "weird things" turn up.
Since these Strange Reverse pieces are "NOT Correct" there's no way to put a value on them... but no WW1 Bavarian collector would spurn them.
