    A study of EKs- AWS

I think it is time we start to identify the details that go with each maker of the EKs. Perhaps then we can ID some unmarked ones. We can do one maker a day as a long term project. This will pay off in the end when people are researching crosses to buy.

I would like to start with AWS and start with marked crosses first. Once we have a baseline we will add unmarked crosses that match. We should pay attention to core details, frame signatures, reverse set ups and marking differences. We will examine both EK1s and EK2s by the same manufacturer in the same thread. If it becomes too wieldy I will use my near god-like powers to split them.

If you notice one that you have has already been posted then please don't post an exact duplicate. Let's go for the differences.

Lets see where this takes us.

Here's mine. The crown on this maker's crosses are superb.

Reverse with thin pin. Note the mark. Note also the reverse which gives this one the name of "pillow-back."

This sounds like a good idea. I'll throw my couple of AWS pieces in the ring. The first is a screwback marked on the outer screwdevice. It has the standard flat reverse.

My second one appears to have a diffrent core than my first. The frame does not appear to be silver, but maybe brass or tomback. Unmarked but a pillowback version, so AWS.

We're off to a good start then. Don't forget the EK2s.

                      Is there EK2s by AWS?

We'll just have to look. Perhaps they are not marked. Core details should lead us in the right direction.

Here is another variation of the AWS. This one has the same core
detail as the one posted by Steve in post #8 however it uses
double screw posts and a cruciform shaped backplate.

Here it is with the backing plate removed.
