    Helmetdiver in the army

    Hello

My interest is divers and submarines (German 1914-18). Normally its related to the navy. So I was very surprised when I saw a postcard, on ebay yesterday, with a helmetdiver from the army. The postcard had a postmark from "Königl. Bayrische Unterwasser-Schneide-Abteilung".
Are there someone who can tell something about this unit?

    Regards
    Jensen

It must be a engineer-related unit (Pioniere) used to repair bridges that had been destroyed by the enemy or to remove obstacles from the many Belgian channels (Kanäle). Sounds like a "Bavarian underwater cutting unit".

      Hi Gilles

Thanks for your reply. I think your right. There was also a card send from the unit, with sunken ships in the Meuse.

I'm just wondering that I have never seen any photos of them or seen them mentioned in any books.

      Regards
      Jensen
