I've only seen original examples of the weiderholungsspange made by Gödet or Wagner, although I believe there could be some correct unmarked examples too.

2 years ago, I had the misfortune of purchasing one of these from Germany, allegedly made by Junkers. I bought it on the condition that it be shipped to Detlev first so he could examine it first. Detlev himself said he couldn't tell if it were fake or not but prompted me to err on the side of caution, which I did. I was still out some gelt, but much less that the cost of the piece. I consider myself lucky.

On another note, that Prinzen bar is a beauty!

To the best of my knowledge and...

... a lot of prior research... Less than 1000 awards. There is only ONE positively known maker of this spange. Wagner in Berlin. The Juncker/Godet spanges I've seen (quite a few of recently) floating through ebay are crap. You can confirm this through Weitze or Niemann in Hamburg.
Just like the GMVK, these were official issue items and only one maker was authorized. What is interesting is the GMVK's are ALL hallmarked for 938 silver & "W". BUT, the issue spanges spell out Wagner & Sohne, Berlin, with (Tah Dah) the CROWN and Moon and 800 silver marks!
      How about dem apples!
I have owned two, unquestionable originals, both marked like this and both from Detlev Niemann. here's an archive photo of one..

        value?

So considering that there were only about 1000 of these
awarded. This seams to be a fairly rare award.

Everybody I've asked seams to place it in the $300 - $500
range. Does that sound right? If this were a ww2 piece
we would be looking at thousands.

        Any thoughts???????

          Spange awardees

          All,

Has anyone ever attempted to put a list of recipients together? If so , I would be interested in obtaining a copy.

            spange

            Hello,

im pretty sure the following is even a understatement :

This seams to be a fairly rare award.
and as far as im aware prices should be much much higher for original pieces then 300 towards 500 $, mayby there is no demand on these but they certainly do not pop up every day ( at least not as originals ), I believe there has been a few articles on these in the recent years in the BDOS magazines .... ( will try to track them down => it can take quite some time as im leaving on holliday real soon )

            Cordial greetings,

Interestingly this was brought up in the BDOS "Info" 47/1986. Kleitman himself wrote back in #49 and gave the 659 number for 1870 EK2s in an interanl memo to the Vizeprsidenten des Staatsministeriums" on 16.11.1915. he also gives the 859 number as a follow up number to the VP 0n 11.10.1917. "Schon wahrend und erst recht nach dem Kreige sind aber von verschiedenen Herstellen Kopien angefertigt worden".
Given the propensity for the Ek to be handed out gratis in 1918 and 1919/20 a reasonable estimate seems to be about 1,000 I suppose.
I once saw one of these sold at a gun fair in Utah as "patriotic jewelry". Alas, i was 2 minutes too late to snap it up.

It's interesting that Dr. Klietmann's came came up in this discussion about the Weiderholungsspange. The example I have in my collection was verified by and has a certificate issued by the Orders Research Institute (not the official name) headed by Dr. Klietmann in Berlin. This was done almost 20 years ago, long before the current rage for certification.

It's my understanding that the photo archives were acquired by Adrian Forman after Dr. Klietmann's death. I am not totally sure if this is in fact so.

Just some further ramblings for what it's worth.

Post one on the estand and let's see how it goes. Start the bidding at "thousands" and let's see the action.
