    Medals... And Matrimony

OK, not strictly "Mädchen in Uniform," but still

"Ist dat a parazol, or ist you chust glad to zee me, Brunhildalein?"

There is more reinforced steel in that corset than the Frainch used in the Maginot Line!!!

And look at HERS! How many whales died for THAT?

Notice that the naval flyer With The Very Large Head is wearing the ARMY wound badge!!!

The Deckoffizier is wearing the 1900-01 China Medal. He joined after March 1897 (no Centenary Medal), so this is some time probably 1908-13, with his M1825 long service brooch "off camera."

I thought a Kaleu (Kapitaen Leutant) had 2 1/2 stripes. Much like a USN LCDR. Were Kaiserliche Marine ranks different?

Rick, Did I inspire your newest thread?

Yup, different sleeve rings in the Imperial navy--

                      1 THIN= Lt zS

                      1 "normal" = Olt zS

                      2 "normal" = KaptLt zS

                      Yup.

I forgot to do a closeup of the China Medal. Tony has the CORRECT name for the change in colors on old photo processes that I keep calling "spectrum shift" but notice here that the red and black are all but the same, and the pale yellow comes out quite as dark as the rest. It takes a heck of a lot of practice looking at these... when there is no medal attached!
