I sent the cross out to Andreas to evaluate in hand. If this is a fake, it is a little chilling to me, as I obviously would not be able to tell a real one from a fake. Definately out of my league. The reproduction of the very small flaws, even the background pebbling, would really suggest that the fakers have achieved a level of sophistication that I would not have felt possible. Good to know for sure one way or another!

Hello guys-

To follow up, Andreas evalutated the gmvk posted in hand and determined that it was a fake, without a doubt. The seller graciously accepted the piece back and is providing a refund. I am quite confident, after looking at the comparison images of these, that I would not be able to identify a real gmvk from a fake if it fell out the sky and hit me on the head. Many thanks to Andreas for his excellent evaluation and the seller for accepting the medal back.

Thanks also to the educational discourse on this award, particularly to Don. If nothing else, some things were learned about this.

Two of the fakes, or two real ones? There does not currently appear to be a gmvk on his site. Again, I think I may want to stick with the things I know a little about, as I was very suprised to find that the award posted was fake. Live and learn.
