    Art for arts's sake

Post some of your more artistic Imperial award documents as a Vorgeschmack of what could be seen in the forthcoming 1914 Iron Cross article.

Here is a Bavarian promotion document for Sergeant Dornhuber of Bavarian Infantry Regiment No. 13. Any comments or information on the signing officer would be much appreciated.

    Ornate lettering

This is an award document for the Bavarian MVK3 with swords to Schütze, and later Gefreiter, Firnbach of Bavarian Infantry Regiment 31. He was also awarded the slightly more mundane (Prussian) EK II.

      (Land-)Adel?

Who can provide any information on Freiherr von Tettau, who put his rather dashing signature on this provisional EK II document while a mere Captain in LIR 28 in June 1918?

        M.G.-Scharfschützen-Abteilung 58

Another rather subdued provisional EK II award document (but with a pleasant border). This was made out to Schütze Vollmerhaus of M.G.-Scharfschützen-Abteilung 58 and signed by a certain Generalleutnant and commander of the 26. (württembergische) Landwehr-Division. Any information on this officer would be greatly appreciated (I can't even work out his name).

          A bit of colour ...

This EK II award document probably made Gefreiter Hiertz of Infanterie-Regiment 65 very happy. The signature, unfortunately, is only stamped.

            The cool North

After all the excitement of a coloured award document, back to the clean simplicity of the North. This rather large sheet (it didn't fully fit on my scanner) is another provisional award for Uffz. Osbahr of 1. M.G.-Kompagnie, Schleswig-Holsteinisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 163.

Perhaps someone else (Chris?, hint, hint) has a document or two to show. Please regard the above postings as blatant provocation. I am sure there are a lot of very nice awards to be seen ;-)

Ingolstadt promotion officer was "Dörfler." alas there were TWO of that name, and due to an unfortunate ambiguous entry I am unable to tell which was which at this point. One was killed in 1915, but that doesn't make the strangely unhelpful ambiguous entry any less unhelpful for an ID.

There were too many Freiherrn von Tettau to tell apart at this point, either.

No clue on the General, "von ......mann"?

Major Ritter was in IR 163 as a Hauptmann before the war. He ended up as commander of RIR 28, retired as Oberstleutnant, alive 1926.
