    My newest mega medal bar

    Dear Imperialoids,

With pride I am introducing to you my newest acquisition: a 10 piece württemberg'sche medal bar I bought from Hermann Historica.

    Here is the description:

    Württembergische Ordensspange,
zehnteilig. Eisernes Kreuz 1914, 2.Klasse (OEK 1909). Kriegsdenkmünze 1870/71 für Kämpfer mit den vier Gefechtsspangen Wörth, Sedan, Villiers und Paris (OEK 1941/4/10/13/24). Militär-Verdienstorden, Ritterkreuz 1914-1918, Chiffre "WR", Silber vergoldet, tragebedingte kleine Emailchips (OEK 2967). Wilhelmskreuz mit Schwertern (OEK 3078). Frontkämpferehrenkreuz (OEK 3803). Orden der Württembergischen Krone, Ritterkreuz, Gold (OEK 2938). Friedrichs-Orden, Ritterkreuz 1.Klasse, Gold (OEK 2980). Dienstehrenzeichen 1.Klasse, Kreuz für 25 Dienstjahre, 1891-1921 (OEK 3089). Silberne Erinnerungsmedaille zum 25jährigen Regierungsjubiläum König Karls, 1889 (OEK 3014). Centenar-Medaille 1897 (OEK 1965).

The MVO has been replaced with a post-war reproduction, as I was told before the bidding, although it looks quite nice, I must say. The bar itself is very convex, to follow the chest's shape.

    Could be the wearer traceable?

Thank you very much for your patience and your interest.

    Ciao,

    Claudio

          OHOOOOOOO!

          Hermann Historica?
I´m sure it is traceable, but Im also sure Rick or Werner could do it faster than me. I think it is a retired LtCol who served again in WW1. IMO it might be that also the EK 14 is a replaced EK 70. Maybe I have an ID answer tomorrow.

          Best regards

          Daniel

            Daniel,

I thought too, that the EK 2nd class 1914 looked a bit strange... If he got the EK 2nd cl. 1870, he would have had also the Eichenlaub "25" and maybe the Wiederholungsspange 1914...

            Ciao,

            Claudio

              Hi Claudio,

does not have to be. Not all who got it wore it or also wore it on a buttonhole ribbon.
The Wtbg MVO should be a 1870/71 award and was "updated" in or after WW1. Normally he should have the old style one with the crown on the top and the blue ribbon.
The EK might be right a 14 one. Can be he got no in 70/71 and did enough to earn one in WW1.

I could not find him 1900 (my earliest ranklist )

No 1866 medal, so young Lt in 1870/71, The Wtbg Crown order and the Friedrich knight 1st indicates Major / LtCol, retired before 1900. Recalled for at least "close to the combat" in WW1 to earn the Wilhelmskreuz X and made probably Oberst. Even lived long enough to get the FEK in 1934 where he should have been in biblic age.

              Best regards

              Daniel

                Daniel,

Do you think that the correct MVO for this bar was this and that the one I have got on the bar was very likely put in 30s by the dealer who put together it?

                Ciao,

                Claudio

                  Hi Claudio,

congratulation for this bar... It's very difficult to find out the wearer. I know another bar like yours - with the EK 1914, too.

There were a few veterans of th war 1870(71 who got the MVO between 1895 and 1914. Some of them didn't get the EK2 1870, but the Friedrichorden 1. class with swords. It had to give back, when they got the MVO.

But then they could wear the Friedrichsorden 1. class again, if they were awarded befron 1870.

                  Werner

                    Hi Claudio,

                    exactly this one.
Württemberg renewed the design on the MVO short before WW1 (I think 1913)
Werner is right, the odd Württembergians had the rule to retun ANY lower War dec. when they got a higher one.

                    Beste Grüße

                    Daniel

                      Werner,

Thanks for your kind words. Would it be for you possible to find out in which unit served this Württemberg'scher Offizier during the Franco-Prussian war, checking the Gefechtsspangen on the KDM 1870 (Wörth, Sedan, Villiers und Paris)? I am just wondering... Thank you in advance for your kind reply!

                      Ciao,

                      Claudio

                        Hi Claudio,

the 1870/71 bars are the typical combination for the Württemberg Felddivision - most of the regiments fought there.

                        Best regards

                        Werner
