Those are about the ugliest crowns I have ever seen. Also the date
looks off to me.
It does not have the quality I would expect in a period 1870 cross.
Even the 1895 Jubilee crosses don't show these diformities.
If this is a fake. It is a new one that I have not seen before.
Let's see what Marc, and Marshall and Tony have to say about it.

I have been going through the 1870 EK2 threads trying to learn about these pieces. It is difficult going partially because the images are so poor or no longer visible. This one came out of an older collection so is not new to the market for what that is worth.
Please check out number 3. If you like that I think you will like 4 and 5. I think I am getting a feel for this and appreciate it when you explain what is good and bad.
On another badge reference was made to casting so I take it fake EK2's are produced with cast cores. I am impressed with the level of effort exerted in these fakes if that is the case.
Thanks Again everyone
Richard

Sadly, this particular EK is not one you will want in your collection.
This thread will help you out... 1870 Iron Cross Opinion.
Add the pictures to an '1870 fakes' folder in your computer, so you can reference any purchases against them.
